SX1303 LoRaWAN HAT for Raspberry Pi (868 MHz with GNSS) is a LoRaWAN gateway board, not a LoRa end-device radio. It turns a Raspberry Pi into a LoRaWAN gateway capable of receiving and forwarding messages from many LoRaWAN sensors to a network server such as ChirpStack or The Things Stack.

The HAT plugs onto the Raspberry Pi's 40-pin GPIO header and contains:
Semtech SX1303 LoRaWAN gateway baseband processor
SX1250 RF front-end transceiver
868 MHz radio (EU868 band, used in Europe and many other regions)
GNSS (GPS/BeiDou) module for accurate timing and gateway location
Power amplifier (PA) and low-noise amplifier (LNA)
SPI interface to communicate with the Raspberry Pi
SMA connectors for the LoRa and GNSS antennas
Why the SX1303 is important
The SX1303 is a dedicated LoRaWAN gateway chip. Compared with simple LoRa radios like the SX1276 or SX1262, it can:
Receive packets from many LoRa devices simultaneously
Listen on multiple frequencies and spreading factors at once
Support thousands of end devices over time
Consume less power than the earlier SX1301
Provide fine timestamps for advanced location services
